The Healing Place

The Healing Place has been named by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services as a “Model That Works” in the successful delivery and operation of programs and services to homeless people addicted to alcohol and drugs, our nation’s number one health problem.

Mission
To reach the homeless, offer recovery for the addicted and help restore productive lives. Reach, Recover, Restore!

Primary Goal
To develop and maintain programs that provide opportunities to clients to change their lifestyles through mutual-help recovery programs, education, and healthcare and spiritual emphases, all of which are determined to have the greatest assurance for achieving our mission.

The Healing Place at a Glance…

o Homeless shelter and addiction recovery program for men and women addicted to alcohol and drugs, serving nearly 40,000 meals a month and sleeping about 400 men, women and children each night.

o Largest shelter/addiction recovery center in Kentucky – more than 2,200 alumni and an extraordinary 65% recovery rate (5 times the national average).

o The model has been replicated in other U.S. cities, and has been chosen as the model for “Recovery Kentucky,” Governor Fletcher’s plan for recovery centers throughout the Commonwealth.

o Shifts the focus from entitlement to empowerment and breaks the cycle of homelessness and addiction.

o Cost-effective program: less than $25 per person, per day.

o Saves taxpayers over $7 million each year in ER visits and jail costs alone.

o Free Health Services Clinic providing thousands of patient visits and prescriptions every year.

o Only Sobering-Up Center for intoxicated homeless people in the Metro area.

o Unique Parent Reunification & Child Development Program that positively impacts about 120 at-risk children every year.

o Offers comprehensive continuing care that includes: job placement, housing, education, assistance with legal and medical issues, and family reunification.

o Nationally recognized as a “Model That Works” by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services.
